Health Information Technology

The Health Information Technology  program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM).

cahiim_accred_logo_color_lowThe Health Information Technology (HIT) programs incorporate the disciplines of reimbursement, information technology, anatomy and physiology, and law into one curriculum. Brookdale offers coding classes in ICD-9 -CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS.  Because of this unique mixture, HIT graduates can choose from a variety of work settings across a variety of healthcare settings. One hundred percent of graduates who responded to the graduate survey are either are employed in the HIM field or continuing their education.

Brookdale’s 61-credit Associate in Applied Science program in Health Information Technology is designed to provide the extensive training and in-depth education needed to work in a field which the Occupational Outlook Handbook says “is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations …because of the number of medical tests, treatments and procedures that will be increasingly scrutinized by health insurance companies, regulators, courts and consumers.”

  • All HIT courses with the exception of the Introduction to HIT and the Clinical Practicum are available online.
  • You will be required to come on campus to take General Education courses.
  • One of the requirements of graduation is a Clinical Practicum which requires 40 hours of class time, face-to-face, at a health care facility.

Over 100 students were enrolled in the HIT program for academic year 2012-13.  Students will enjoy personal attention due to our average class size under the tutelage of our AHIMA credentialed instructors.

  • Online Course average class size = 14
  • Face-to-Face average class size = 24
